Indiana is home to many great Breweries like Fountain Square, Flat 12, and 3 Floyds, but it's hard not to argue that Indy's most popular brewery is Sun King, who invaded local taps with their Cream Ale.
As a self proclaimed beer connoisseur (or as my friends put it "beer snob"), I was thrilled with the opportunity at the chance to make their headquarters part of a virtual tour with the Google Business Photo Program. And maybe even try some of their product?
The day we went proved to be a very productive day for them. Over three hundred kegs were being filled and shipped out. It was great to watch their inner workings. The assembly line I worked on in high school was nothing like this. The fresh beer is filled in kegs in the same building as it was brewed. The hundreds of 16 oz cans travel down a conveyor belt then filled and hand packaged. The brewers themselves are what I always thought every brewer should look like. Great big, blue collar, almost lumber jack looking men with beards as ginormous as their laughs, surrounded by off the cuff conversations, and indie rock music. The beer is made with love.
Everyone there was proud show off their product. More than once, I was told to notice a unique pink brew kettle (should be easy to find in the tour as it's color pops among the other metallic giants.)
After the tour was completed, I was offered a sample. I was introduced to Sun King's Osiris Pale Ale,. It came as a pleasant surprise that they had over a half dozen other brews available for tasting.
My personal suggestion? Try their IPA.
Sun King Brewery. Now a virtual tour on Google Maps. I love my job.
